Dry skin and how to moisturise it properly
Do we really need to moisturize our skin or is it a trick of cosmetic companies?

The skin is made up mostly of water. Water helps with its renewal and regeneration. With a normal workload and a diet that includes vegetables and fruit, an adult can drink about 1.5 litres of water a day. The skin contains the most water during youth and adolescence. Later, it slowly dries out, and by the end of life the water in the skin is only half the initial amount.
Can we influence skin ageing by hydrating?
Skin ageing occurs quite slowly. It is most visible on the face, neck and hands. The skin is no longer as radiant and taut as it was in your twenties. Nor can it be. The biggest influence on the skin is not hydration, but genetics, hormones and the environment. However, hydration helps the skin to better withstand at least the external environment.
When should I start using moisturiser on my skin?
Use a skin moisturizer if your skin is inherently dry, atopic, sensitive, easily irritated, or dehydrated. To detect dehydration, grasp the loose skin on the back of your other hand with two fingers and lift. Then release the skin and observe how long it takes to return to its original position. If it takes more than 2-3 seconds, it means that the skin is not well hydrated and is losing elasticity.
How to moisturize the skin?
All cosmetic skin creams contain substances that guarantee skin hydration. A cream enriched with moisturizing ingredients gives a pleasant feeling of smooth and soft skin, and the user feels that the cream works well. Thus, you can use any cream designed for the skin for normal moisturizing of healthy skin. For older ones, it is better to purchase specialized creams that contain vitamins, collagen and fats, nobly called ceramides.
What about dry skin?
Dry skin means it's damaged. It can be a genetic affliction such as atopic skin and various ichthyoses. But much more commonly, skin is damaged by substances it repeatedly encounters. Dry skin can appear around the eyes, on the face, on the neck, and especially affects the palms and fingers. Various chemicals present almost everywhere are to blame. In cosmetics, in drugstores, in the air, in the soil, in plants and in water.
What to do for dry skin?
Dry skin needs not only hydration, but also protection of the broken skin barrier. Without this protection, it is prone to infections, eczema and various dermatitis and ages much faster than it could.
Skin barrier protection creams
Skin barrier protection creams are the next step in preventing the skin from ageing too soon. Classically, these are weather protection creams (against UV rays, frost and wind) and creams against irritants. A representative of the latter is the Dermaguard barrier protection cream. It moisturises and softens the skin for a long time and creates an effective non-greasy barrier against irritants for several hours. The cream can be used on any part of the body, including the eye area. It helps keep healthy skin intact and helps damaged skin maintain an effective barrier against irritation. Dermaguard can be purchased on our e shop.
