Causes of the disease
The cause of atopic eczema is a congenital disorder of the skin barrier. The skin of a sufferer is not properly lubricated. In addition to this, skin signalling is also interfered with. The skin reacts disproportionately to irritating stimuli. The disorder is systemic, meaning that other organs besides the skin are involved. Atopic eczema appears soon after birth. But in most children, it disappears by puberty at the latest. Unfortunately, it can reappear at any time in adulthood. Correct diagnosis should be supported by epicutaneous tests.
Dermaguard in Treatment
- atopic skin needs to be moisturised frequently. With Dermaguard, 2-3 applications per day are sufficient
- Dermaguard protects a compromised skin barrier. It does not allow allergens to penetrate the skin and thus cause an irritating reaction
- it is not greasy, it does not leave greasy stains
- it is not perfumed. Perfumed creams bother atopic skin
- it gives the skin time to regenerate
- it is effective for up to 6 hours, does not wash off and evaporates through the action of sweat
When to Use Dermaguard
It is most effective to start using the cream preventively, when the skin is calm. The cream then moisturises and protects it from irritation. The cream can also be used when the first signs of irritation, such as slight redness and itching, begin to appear. We do not use the cream on acute red, inflamed, swollen or cracked areas. Such conditions should be treated first by corticosteroids and the cream should only be used on soothed skin. Dermaguard can be used on any part of the body, except the mucous membranes.
